O Equador deu um basta ao legado da esquerda de Rafael Corrêa ao eleger Daniel Noboa presidente, com 55,95% dos votos. Noboa venceu Luisa González, herdeira política de Corrêa, em uma eleição antecipada após a dissolução do Congresso pelo ex-presidente Guillermo Lasso. Jovem, empresário e avesso à política tradicional, Noboa ganhou apoio das classes médias urbanas, defende a dolarização da economia e firmou parcerias com empresas como Google e Amazon para modernizar os serviços públicos e combater a corrupção.
Na segurança, declarou guerra ao crime organizado, colocando militares nas ruas e inspirando-se em Nayib Bukele. Segundo ele, a taxa de homicídios caiu de 47 para 38 por 100 mil habitantes em um ano. Noboa busca apoio dos EUA e não descarta o retorno de bases militares estrangeiras para enfrentar o narcotráfico. Sua gestão marca um novo capítulo na política equatoriana, com foco em segurança, tecnologia e ruptura com o passado.
